Firefighting Diesel Engine Overhauled and Reinstalled at Regasification Terminal

The firefighting diesel engine powering the seawater firefighting pump at our regasification terminal is vital to site safety. Earlier this year, it was taken out of service for a complete overhaul. As land transport wasn’t feasible due to jetty weight limits, the engine was carefully lifted and transported by barge—midway along the jetty—through a joint operation with Cassar Shipyard.

It was delivered to the Cummins-authorized RCV workshop in Malta, where it underwent several weeks of detailed refurbishment and successful bench testing. Transport Malta issued a Notice to Mariners to support its safe return. Once favorable sea conditions were confirmed, the engine was reinstalled with the coordinated efforts of ElectroGas Malta, Cassar Shipyard, and RCV and is now securely back on its base plate.

This complex operation highlights the importance of strategic planning, cross-team collaboration, and an unwavering focus on safety and operational reliability.
